Zero Wave: Improvised & Experimental Music Done Properly
Boundary-pushing sounds, flawless acoustics, and £6 local craft pints right on the Bermondsey Beer Mile.
Cancel your standard plans. On 30 April, we are handing The Blue Monk stage over to Zero Wave for a massive, boundary-pushing night of improvised music, experimental audio, and short film screenings.
Experimental and ambient sounds demand absolute clarity. There is nothing worse than intricate field recordings or improvised jazz getting lost in a room with muddy, blown-out pub speakers. Because The Blue Monk is a music venue done properly, our entire 150-capacity room is custom-acoustically treated and rigged with top-tier, stadium-quality audio gear. Whether it is the rattle of post-jazz skronk or the ambient hum of a thunderstorm, you are going to hear every single detail with absolute, pristine clarity.
Pair that uncompromised auditory experience with our famously accessible bar. We proudly pour beautifully brewed local Bermondsey craft beer at just £6 a pint, so you can experience premium live entertainment without the extortionate Central London price tags.
The Lineup:
Colin Webster, Andrew Lisle & Roberto Sassi: Post-jazz rattle and skronk from three seasoned members of London's free improv scene (sometime collaborators with Abstract Concrete, Sex Swing, John Edwards, and Steve Noble).
Hannah Dargavel-Leafe: An artist utilizing field recordings as both sculptural material and a research method to investigate landscapes in a state of flux.
Far Rainbow: A captivating improvising duo featuring Bobby Barry and Emily Barnett, working with sticks, stones, drums, plastic bags, shavers, electric toothbrushes, and thunderstorms.
Aura Satz (Short Films): The award-winning artist and performer screens works from her PreemptiveListening project, looking at the sound and cultural meaning of sirens and imagining new acoustic warning signals for the 21st century.
